Why so many # 1s in the late 80s?

Hello, I have just joined the forums on Top 40 Weekly. I am a big fan of Billboard and I have been following for quite some time. So I wanted to bring some discussion about the large amount of # 1 songs in the later part of 80s (1985-1989). It just seemed like a huge pile up of # 1 singles and even a high amount of turnover in the top ten, especially 1988-1989. I’m wondering if there is any perspective on this.

Hey @BillboardGuy interesting question.

Maybe @Jarrett_Nolan or @jtmichaelson have an answer or theory for this?
